Goodwin SFA ban reduced after Aberdeen appeal over Ryan Porteous comment punishment

JIM GOODWIN has had his SFA ban reduced after an Aberdeen appeal.

The Pittodrie boss had been served an eight-game suspension after he accused Ryan Porteous of "blatant cheating".

Goodwin was due to face an immediate six-game ban with a further two matches suspended until the end of the season.

Furious Aberdeen chiefs appealed the ban after being left "extremely disappointed at the level of sanction imposed".

And the SFA have now reduced the punishment to a three-match immediate ban with a further two matches suspended until the end of the season.

Goodwin already sat out in the match against Dundee United so will only need to serve two more touchline bans.

The Scottish FA disciplinary hearing update read: "Partially Upheld. Three matches immediate suspension and two matches suspended until the end of season 2022/23.

"(The Appellate Tribunal take into account the one match already served as part of the initial sanction, and therefore instruct this is deducted from the new sanction.)"

Goodwin had previously commented: “I don’t know how many times the boy Porteous can get away with that kind of stuff.

"We showed our players a number of instances when Porteous has won penalties like that in the past.

"People will say he’s good at it and he’s clever.

"But it’s blatant cheating as far as I’m concerned and it’s cost my team points."

An Aberdeen statement after the initial ban read: "After being informed of the decision of the Tribunal in today’s disciplinary hearing against Jim Goodwin, the Club is extremely disappointed at the level of sanction imposed on Jim and are taking it very seriously.

"We do not expect to get the written reasons behind the decision until next week, but we will be appealing this decision.

"Meanwhile Jim will be banned from the dugout for the Dundee United game."
