'Good to work for' - David Moyes speaks out on West Ham's board amid pressure on his future

West Ham United manager David Moyes says he is fortunate to manage the club and work for a supportive board.

The Scot is in his second stint as Hammers boss, the first was in the second half of the 2017-2018 season and despite guiding the team to Premier League survival, the decision was made to not extend his contract beyond that campaign.

Fast forward two years and Moyes was back in east London and has been in charge ever since, leading West Ham to back to back European qualifications as well as reaching the semi-final of the UEFA Europa League last season.

This season has seen the club maintain their excellent form in Europe, reaching the UEFA Europa Conference League quarter-finals, but domestically it's been far from ideal.

West Ham are currently 15th in the table and their goal difference is the only thing keeping them out of the relegation zone with ten games remaining.

Despite this, Moyes has retained the backing of the board even after fans have called for the 59-year-old to be sacked and those calls increased after the 5-1 home defeat to Newcastle United on Wednesday night. Moyes said he spoke to club chairman David Sullivan the following morning and that everything was 'all good' and 'all fine'.

And when asked about whether he feels fortunate to be in the dugout, Moyes replied: "Yes I do, yes. All I can say is that in the past there’s been history and people have maybe looked at the board here and not thought that.

"But if I was recommending any managers I would say they’re a good board to work for, they support you, they stick with you. All the things that matter. And they’ve been incredibly supportive."

When pushed why he feels that way, he added: "I think you know the answer to that. My opinion is that probably West Ham have had the best two or three years they’ve had in most of your lifetimes."
