Good Samaritan rescues family after stranger punched mum in face outside Asda

A kind-hearted stranger who fought off a thug that he saw assaulting a terrified mother in the street with her three kids said he just did 'what any decent person would do'. Jason Blake had his fingernail bitten off during the brawl which may never grow back after he pinned the man attacking the innocent family down to the ground.

The heroic 34-year-old was entering an Asda car park in Grimsby on December 10 with a friend when he spotted a man 'randomly' run up to the woman and her three children and start 'screaming' at her. The Good Samaritan said he saw the man throw the woman on the ground and punch her in the face as he attempted to rob her of her phone and handbag, Grimsby Telegraph reports.

The horrified stranger then watched the attacker push and punch her child, aged around eight, after he tried to protect his mother. Humberside Police say they are aware of the incident on Holles Street and are investigating the assault of the woman who was left with facial injuries.

A 38-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident but has been released on bail. Jason said: "My mate and I jumped out of the car and just left it in the middle of the road.

"My mate pushed him off her and we made sure she was OK. He had ran off towards Asda, so I went to find him and I found him at the checkouts buying pizza.

"I said to him, 'What was that about?' and he said: 'None of your f***ing business'. I said it was and that I was making it my business, because you don't assault a woman in public in front of her kids and then punch an eight-year-old.

"He said: 'What are you going to do about it?' and I said we were going to walk outside and that I would take it to the police. He said, 'Well they won't arrest me, because I'm the King of the Universe'.

"As we were walking outside, he tried to run off so I grabbed hold of him and we ended up having a scrap on the floor." Jason who lost his fingernail after his heroic actions said doctors had to entirely remove it and he's been warned it will never grow back.

He added: "I had to have a tetanus shot and I spent three-and-a-half hours in A&E, all for being a good Samaritan. The man and the woman involved in the 'distressing' incident were unknown to one another as he spontaneously attacked the family.

The concerned 34-year-old said: '' I asked the police afterwards if she was okay and they said she was really shaken up but that she was okay."

A spokesperson for Humberside Police stated: "Thankfully the woman was not seriously injured, but this was a very distressing incident for those concerned, and we would appeal for anyone with information that would help with our enquiries to call us on our non-emergency number 101 quoting log 394 of 10 December 2022."
