Good news of the week: Dua Lipa to headline Glastonbury and Barbie honour for Queen Camilla

Big news for culture vultures this week: the Oscars saw great success for Oppenheimer, and Glastonbury’s headliners have finally been announced.

The Queen has also received a great honour in the form of her very own Barbie doll, while Naomi Campbell’s career is set to be celebrated at a major exhibition.

Dua Lipa, Coldplay, and Sza to headline Glastonbury

Dua Lipa, Coldplay, and Sza have been announced as the Glastonbury headliners, while Shania Twain will play the festival’s legend’s slot.

Cyndi Lauper, The Last Dinner Party, Two Door Cinema Club, and Jamie XX are among the other acts set to perform at Worthy Farm this June.

Queen Camilla’s Barbie doll honour

Queen Camilla has been immortalised as a Barbie doll in recognition of her work as president of the Women of the World (WOW) Foundation. 

She held the miniature version of herself during a Buckingham Palace event celebrating Wow and quipped: “You’ve taken about 50 years off my life – we should all have a Barbie.”

Naomi Campbell’s major V&A exhibition

Supermodel Naomi Campbell’s 40-year career in fashion will be honoured in a V&A exhibition. 

Campbell has collated more than 100 outfits and accessories for the exhibition, which will open on June 22. 

Giant redwoods are thriving in the UK

Giant redwoods – or giant sequoia trees, as they are also known – are thriving in the UK, new research has found. 

The study found that the giant trees grow at similar rates to their native California range. They are some of the UK’s largest trees, despite only being introduced in the mid-19th century. 

Oscars success for Oppenheimer team

Sunday night was a success for the cast and crew of Oppenheimer, as they left the Academy Awards with seven Oscars.

Cillian Murphy won best actor, Christopher Nolan won best director, and Robert Downey Jr won best supporting actor. The film was named best picture, and won awards for its editing, score, and cinematography. 

London Dungeon hires infamous Glasgow Wonka star

Good news for one young Glasgow actress – her brief turn as “The Unknown” at the infamous Willy Wonka experience has landed her her next role.

The London Dungeon has hired 16-year-old Felicia for a special guest appearance at the dungeon on April 7. She said: “I’m hoping my recent scare experience will have set me up well for this role – and I cannot wait to meet and learn from the expert team at the London Dungeon as I'd love to be doing their job full-time one day.”

Britain’s economy returned to growth

Britain’s economy has returned to growth as the GDP rose to 0.2 per cent in January. 

ONS director of economics statistics Liz McKeown said: “The economy picked up in January with strong growth in retail and wholesaling. Construction also performed well with housebuilders having a good month, having been subdued for much of the last year.”

Trains between London and North Wales planned

New train services between London and North Wales, as well as to the Midlands and Shropshire, have been proposed. 

Train and rail infrastructure supplier Alstom plans to introduce up to five journeys a day between London Euston and Wrexham, from next year. 

London’s Superloop bus route complete

The Mayor of London has hailed the completion of the Superloop bus route, which forms a 138km circle through London’s suburbs. 

Mr Khan said: “I’m so excited about the benefits these new services will bring by providing Londoners with stronger alternatives to private car use, and helping us to build a better, greener London for everyone.”
