Good Morning Britain: Who is Gordon Smart as new presenter makes GMB debut?

Those tuning into Good Morning Britain today [Thursday, December 29] might be wondering who the breakfast show's new presenter is. Gordon Smart made his GMB debut this morning alongside Charlotte Hawkins.

ITV bosses announced Gordon would be joining the main presenting line-up earlier this week. He will host with Charlotte on Thursday and also on Friday, December 30 from 6am on ITV1 and ITVX.

When the news broke, Gordon said: "I'm thrilled to be joining the amazing stable of talent, in front and behind the camera, on Good Morning Britain.

"So many of the issues facing the country right now are close to home and I’m relishing the chance to join the debate." Here's everything you need to know about the new presenter.

Who is Gordon Smart?

Gordon is a journalist, editor and broadcaster. Viewers will recognise him from hosting afternoon shows on talkSPORT and BBC Radio Scotland. He also has his own evening show on Radio X and Weekend Breakfast on BBC Radio 5 Live.

The new GMB presenter made his name by becoming the youngest editor of The Sun’s Bizarre Showbiz column when he was only 26 years old. Voted Showbiz Reporter of The Year in 2012, Gordon was soon appointed editor of The Scottish Sun, the highest-selling newspaper in Scotland and in 2016, Gordon became Deputy Editor of the National Edition.

The 42-year-old also hosts a podcast with actor Martin Compston. Congratulating his friend the Line of Duty star tweeted: "Huge congratulations to my Restless Natives compadre on the @GMB presenting gig thoroughly deserved, will also make great podcast material when his arse goes, what will last longer Gordon or Christmas Trees? Fair play to the wolf man."

Many other stars have also congratulated Gordon with Laura Whitmore commenting: "Yes Gordon!!" as Bradley Simmonds wrote: "Class congrats mate."
