Good Morning Britain Viewers Reportedly Flee as They 'Can’t Watch' ITV Show Anymore

Good Morning Britain stirred up a storm this week after it spotlighted pressure mounting on Prime Minister Keir Starmer to comment on a major new Supreme Court ruling. The court confirmed that the legal definition of a woman, under equality law, refers specifically to biological sex — a decision that’s sparked protests and heated debate.

During Monday’s episode, correspondent Louisa James reported that Starmer hadn’t yet spoken publicly about the ruling, as he’s currently on holiday. Meanwhile, reaction has been pouring in, especially from those worried about the impact on trans rights. Louisa said: “There has also been a lot of anger from those who say the decision has left trans people scared and confused about their rights”, reported Leeds Live.

Protests broke out in London and other cities over the weekend, and police are now investigating after seven statues were reportedly damaged — something Home Secretary Yvette Cooper has condemned as “disgraceful.”

Louisa also mentioned that Labour ministers are feeling the heat behind the scenes. Leaked messages from Labour MPs’ LGBT+ WhatsApp group, obtained by the Mail on Sunday, suggest growing anxiety within the party. One message, allegedly from Dame Angela Eagle, reads: “The ruling is not as catastrophic as it seems, but the EHRC guidance might be and there are already signs that some public bodies are overreacting.”

But while the political world wrestles with the fallout, Good Morning Britain viewers were quick to turn their attention to the show itself, and many weren’t impressed with how it covered the issue.

One viewer pointed out: “He doesn’t need to back it. It’s a binding ruling over a definition in law. That’s it.” Another added: “Makes no difference what this fella says — the court’s ruling is final and law.”

The criticism didn’t stop there. Some slammed the show for what they saw as biased coverage, with one frustrated viewer posting: “Unlike the US President, the PM will obviously respect all Supreme Court decisions. Your presenter bias makes the programme unwatchable.” Others took a direct shot at Starmer, with one user saying: “Grow a spine please, PM.”

Another summed up the sentiment simply: “He’s so keen on following the law he has no choice.” So while Starmer stays silent — at least for now — the row around the ruling, and Good Morning Britain’s decision to spotlight it, is clearly hitting a nerve with viewers.
