Dr Amir Khan has shared a heartfelt goodbye to someone very special in his professional life, and fans are getting emotional right alongside him. The Good Morning Britain regular took to Instagram this week to mark a big milestone – the retirement of his colleague and mentor, Dr Chris Harris, after more than three decades of service as a GP.

Dr Amir, who’s a familiar face on ITV shows like GMB, Lorraine, and Loose Women, posted a touching tribute with a photo of himself alongside Dr Chris and his wife, Debs. His message was filled with warmth, appreciation, and a hint of sadness, reported the Express.

“The end of an era,” Amir wrote. “My lovely friend, colleague, mentor, and senior partner at our practice, Dr Chris Harris, is retiring after 32 years as a GP at our surgery – to be a full-time grandad and to spend more time with his wife, our Debs.”

He added, “A lovely send-off today at the practice, we are all so sad, I actually feel bereft. Not sure what I’m going to do without him working next foot to me, his steady presence, and his sound advice. We will miss you, Chris.”

Amir is still working full-time as a GP in Bradford at the Ridge Medical Centre, where he’s been a key part of the NHS for more than 20 years. But fans might not realize that Dr Chris is also a bit of a TV veteran himself – he’s appeared on Channel 5’s GPs Behind Closed Doors, where both he and Amir gave viewers a glimpse into their day-to-day lives at the practice.

It’s clear the two built more than just a working relationship – the way Amir speaks about Chris makes it obvious there’s a strong bond between them. And it wasn’t just Amir feeling emotional – fans quickly flooded the comments with their own well-wishes and memories.

“Happy retirement Dr Chris, enjoy every minute with Debs and the grandchildren!” one wrote, while another chimed in: “Such a lovely couple, loved them on GPs Behind Closed Doors.” Others expressed how much they understood Amir’s sadness: “Bless you Amir, I can totally understand you feeling bereft. Wishing Chris and Debbie all the happiness in the world.”

Another fan added: “Aww there’ll be a strange period but I know you’ll be fine. Be lovely for them both to spend time with their little ones.” It’s a big goodbye for the surgery, and one that’s clearly touched a lot of hearts – both in the community and beyond.
