Good Morning Britain's Richard Madeley struggles to hide dismay announcing Love Island contestant

Richard Madeley couldn’t hide his dismay for Love Island as he announced the first Love Island contestant for the 2022 series. The nation's favourite ITV2 dating show is making its return on Monday, June 6.

The latest islanders were revealed on Monday, May 30, and Richard and Good Morning Britain co-host Charlotte Hawkins had the honour of announcing the first singleton to be heading to the brand new Spanish villa in the hope of finding love. Following the weather with Laura Tobin on Monday's edition of the ITV new programme, it was over to the hosts to reveal the news, reports The Manchester Evening News.

"It's not just the weather that will be hotting up over the next few weeks because summer officially starts with the nation's favourite dating show," Charlotte said as the screen appeared blue behind them with the Love Island logo.

Richard, 66, immediately put his head into his hands as the show's theme sound played out into the GMB studio. "You might get a clue from the music... Yes Richard, it is back with a bang," Charlotte continued as her co-host muttered and groaned into his hands.

As Charlotte finished up her link, it was over to Richard and he made his feelings very clear. "Yeah, here we go... Sorry, I can't summon up the enthusiasm." He then added: "I know loads of you love Love Island..."

The former This Morning star continued on before a phone pinged and Charlotte declared: "I've got a text!" before continuing: "It says GMB can exclusively announce that the first contestant heading into the villa this year is 24-year-old Paige Thorne."

Paramedic Paige, from Swansea, had since been joined by senior microbiologist Dami Hope, from Dublin, Indiyah Polack, a hotel waitress, and 22-year-old masters student Liam Llewellyn in the line-up so far.

Laura Whitmore will be back as host of the Spain-set realist show. Last year Millie Court and Liam Reardon won the £50,000 prize after finding each other on the ITV2 dating show set in Mallorca which sees singles 'coupled-up' while living together in a villa away from the outside world.
