Good Morning Britain's Kate Garraway got 'worrying' phone call over husband while on air

Good Morning Britain's Richard Madeley has returned from his break and comforted co-presenter Kate Garraway. The ITV hosts were discussing Richard's break and gave an update on Kate's husband.

Derek Draper has a serious case of long Covid which left him hospitalised for a year and has had another scary turn. Richard Madeley told viewers he has been abroad for the last two or three weeks which meant he has "been out of touch".

Birmingham Live reports Kate gave an update on her husband Derek whilst live on the morning show. She revealed political advisor Derek nearly died from sepsis.

She said: "Derek came out of hospital three weeks ago and we hadn't had any medical eruptions. Then we were on air and I got a phone call saying 'we are really worried'. He was just really unwell.

"I whizzed home and it just went 'bum' from there. He had very severe, life-threatening sepsis. It was really dramatic."

"One kidney is looking really good, just need to look at the other one," Kate, who was comforted by Richard. "He's still in high dependency, but [I have my] fingers crossed for everything."

"It's lovely to be back and thank you for all your good wishes," she said. Kate - the ITV I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here star - then added: "Brilliant work from A&E."
