Richard Madeley returned to Good Morning Britain this morning after a short absence.
Joining his ITV co-host Susanna Reid, the 66-year-old presenter joked that he "hadn't been sacked". Instead he told of how he was forced to take time off following a painful "freak accident".
The ITV show host went on to explain that he actually ended up in hospital undergoing an operation to help with his injuries. Susanna said to him: "You appear to have made a full recovery."

Richard said he had been left speaking with a lisp for a short while after injuring his tongue. He joked as he said: "I was either a freak having an accident or I had a freak accident!"
The presenter explained how he had been "crouching down on a slope" near his open car door. He said he was "fiddling around with something at the bottom of the car" when the door smacked him in the face.
He added: "I turned around as the door decided to close itself. Gravity pulled it shut, it’s a big heavy door.
"It just hit me on the chin and I really bit my tongue, to the extent that I needed an op. I had to have some stitches in it."
Susanna grimaced as she said: "That's horrible." Richard replied: "It wasn’t pleasant actually. Eating and drinking was difficult."
In total, Richard took two weeks off from the ITV breakfast show. He seemed to have made a full recovery as he finally returned to the studio.
