Richard Madeley has spoken out about a 'freak' accident that forced him to take a break from Good Morning Britain, as he returned to host the show on Monday.
Since Piers Morgan stormed off the GMB set and left the show in 2021, a number of different presenters have taken their seat alongside Piers' long-serving colleague Susanna Reid, with ex This Morning star Richard definitely the most talked about, as he continues to divide ITV viewers with his take on things and interviewing techniques.
Richard had been noticeably absent from Good Morning Britain in recent weeks and offered a rather startling reason for his absence when he resumed hosting duties alongside Susanna at the star of a new week. As Susanna welcomed him back, Richard explained: "I had a freak accident, basically I was crouching down on a slope between my open car door, and I was just fiddling around with something at the bottom of the car door"
Detailing how things took a turn for the worse, Richard continued: "I turned around as the door decided to close itself, and gravity pulled it shut, it's a big heavy door and it hit me on the chin and I just really bit my tongue. To the extent that I needed stitches."
As Susanna squirmed in her seat at what happened to him, Richard then added: "I needed an operation, I had to have some stitches in it. So the reason I wasn't here was because of this."
Telling Richard that what he what he went through must have been 'horrible,' Susanna continued to quiz Richard with him then admitting: "It wasn't pleasant actually, and eating and drinking was difficult."
