Good Morning Britain's Martin Lewis busts heating home myths as temperatures plummet

Martin Lewis has busted a heating home myth as temperatures plummet.

The Money Saving Expert issued the advice on yesterday's edition of Good Morning Britain. Martin hosted the ITV news programme alongside Susanna Reid and answered viewer's questions on the cost-of-living crisis.

The UK has been hit with cold weather as icy conditions have swept across the country. A viewer named Sal questioned Martin on the best way to heat his home as people struggle to cope with soaring energy bills.

Sal asked: "Is it cheaper to leave heating on all day on low or putting it on twice a day." Martin settled the debate as he said its better to turn it on when you need it.

He said: "The general advice from the energy saving trust is that you have your heating on when you need it, and you turn it off when you don't need it. The myth that it is cheaper to have it on all day is false."

Martin added the "slight argument" in favour of leaving the heating on all day is if you have a home that is prone to condensation. He said: "Each time you have to get rid of the condensation that costs a lot of energy so turning off and on doesn't work.

"But in most cases, you turn the heat on when you need it and turn it off when you don't. It's best to do it on a timer and a thermostat."
