While she had his best interests at heart, it appears Kate Garraway 'hurt' her co-star Ben Shephard as he tackled a problem during Good Morning Britain. The pair were back fronting the ITV news programme on Friday (January 6) which was again filled with discussion and the latest headlines.
But Ben appeared to be poorly and if he got the giggles, ended up struggling with a bit of a tickly cough. It became obvious when the presenter and his co-host welcomed Fred Sirieix to the show who is currently rumoured to be behind Pigeon on the new series of The Masked Singer.
Kate put on a French accent to say 'pigeon" as she attempted to imitate Fred. But it ended up with Ben choking live on the show.
But Kate sprung into action and whacked Ben on the back. "Oh it’s brilliant, every time I make him giggle he can’t speak for 10 minutes," Kate said. After hitting his back, Kate asked: "Does it help when I do that?" to which Ben honestly replied: "No it doesn’t!”
After Kate said: "Well it helps me,” Ben told her: "It just hurts." But GMB viewers were genuinely concerned. @t_catttt tweeted: "#gmb oh dear Ben you should be in bed!" @FlopsyPickle added: "Should Ben really be at work and spreading all his lurgy germs around the place? #gmb."
Meanwhile, Kate also spoke on the show about her own A&E drama. She spoke about a recent hospital dash to the hospital involving her daughter, Darcey, who had got a piercing without her mum's knowledge.
The 54-year-old revealed that she had been forced to rush her teenage daughter to the hospital after she suffered an unfortunate mishap. "She went to pull it off and the whole earring went inside her earlobe."
Discussing the current issues facing the NHS at the time of her anecdote, Kate then continued, saying: "This is not life or death but it’s probably not going to stop bleeding. It doesn’t feel like a GP thing because it’s going to have to be looked at so we went to A&E."
She then revealed they were in A&E for close to five hours. "We were there until 4.45am from 11pm. I knew that was fair enough because it wasn’t life or death," she said. "But there was only one doctor in A&E for kids and the waiting room was full of children coughing and wheezing. All of them said to me I would have gone to the GP but I knew I couldn’t get in."
Kate then continued: It’s a real dilemma because you don’t want to be one of the parents filling up A&E with inappropriate things, but you’re not sure quite what else to do." But Dr Amir Khan, who appeared on the show via video link, then reassured Kate that A&E had been the most appropriate place for Darcey's incident.
