Good Morning Britain's Ed Balls steps in to correct Susanna Reid after on-air mistake

Good Morning's Britain's Ed Balls stepped in to correct Susanna Reid after an on-air mistake on today's show.

The broadcasters returned to front Monday's edition of the ITV news programme. The presenters covered the major topics of the day including Scotland's new gender recognition laws.

The hosts were joined by Helen Joyce and India Willoughby to debate the issue. The new bill introduced last month removed the need for a medical diagnosis of gender dysphoria and lowers the minimum age to 16 from 18.

The bill has faced opposition from MPs as The Times report Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is preparing to block the gender reform bill. The bill has also been opposed by Sir Keir Starmer who said he is "concerned" 16 would be too young for people to change their gender.

However, Susanna was corrected by Ed when she incorrectly stated the Labour leader was in favour of the reform. She said: "Are 16 year olds old enough to legally decide what their gender is? Labour's Keir Starmer says they are."

Ed interrupted his co-host as he said: "No he doesn't. Keir Starmer says he doesn't think they are."

Susanna corrected herself as she added: "I beg your pardon. He thinks they're too young. You're absolutely right. My mistake. Nicola Sturgeon says they are old enough to decide their gender.

"It is going to be a massive legal battle."
