Good Morning Britain paused as star reduced to tears as they confirm exit and told 'we love you'

Good Morning Britain's latest episode was briefly paused as the show's stars took time to bid farewell to one of their colleagues. Kate Garraway and Ben Shephard were back at the helm of the ITV news programme on Friday (May 19).

And the pair took time out of the planned programme, which included delivering the latest news headlines to viewers, heated debates and the latest entertainment gossip, to pay tribute to Pip Thomson as she wrapped up her time on the programme after 10 years.

"We just want to say goodbye to one of the team who is leaving us," Ben said. "The amazing Pip Tomson, how long have you been with us Pip?" he asked as the camera panned to show the presenter sat the other side of the studio

Looking rather flustered, she replied: "I can't speak, I didn't know this was happening. Uhm, nearly 10 years." But she found her stride to make a cheeky dig at Ben as she quipped: “I’ve seen you go greyer and greyer."

As those in front of and behind the cameras laughed, Kate said: "Oh Pip we are really going to miss you, but we are excited for your new adventures. But you’re going to be a huge loss to us at team here here and me personally." Ben added: "Thanks for being such a lovely part of the show as well."

Becoming emotional and as tears filled her eyes, Pip replied: "It's been an absolute joy and what you see at home is really what it's like, it's a great family and everyone is just amazing to work with," before Kate then chimed in to say: "Oh don't cry!"

Pip concluded: "It's just time [to go] but everyone has been fabulous to thank you, everybody." To lift the mood, Richard Arnold quipped: "Are we working in the same place?" to which Pip joked: "I've got a load of cash the boss just gave me in my back pocket for saying that!" before Richard was heard saying: "We love you, Pip!"

The news correspondent has worked on Good Morning Britain since 2013. In a tweet sent early on Friday morning, Pip shared a string of images from over the years as she said: "The sun is now setting on my (almost) 10 yrs at Good Morning Britain & ITV."

The pictures attached to the post include one of Pip with Hollywood's very own George Clooney, another outside Downing Street and two inside the Good Morning Britain studio. She added: "It's been both fun, infuriating, inspiring & unforgettable. Proud to play a part in such a great show. But so excited about what’s coming next @gmb #itv."
