Good Morning Britain host ‘feels sorry’ for Prince Of Wales over England support backlash

ITV morning show Good Morning Britain 's host Sean Fletcher has said that he "feels sorry" for Prince William, Prince of Wales after the Royal received backlash for supporting England during the World Cup. He also said the issue is raising the question of if there should be a Prince of Wales.

Prince William recently became the Prince of Wales after the Queen died and his father became King Charles III. He has stated that although he wants Wales to do well in the World Cup, he will be supporting England and he met with the English players before they flew out to Qatar.

Many, including Welsh actor Michael Sheen, believe Prince William, as the Prince of Wales, should be supporting Wales and it raises the issue of having a Prince of Wales who is not Welsh and the title of Prince of Wales. Fluent Welsh speaker and Good Morning Britain presenter Sean Fletcher weighed in his opinion.

He said: "He is the Prince of Wales and he is not supporting Wales...I think it was while he was handing out the shirts to the England football team before they left for the World Cup, I think Welsh fans, Welsh people were a bit aggrieved by it because he is the Prince of Wales and if he can't bring himself to support Wales then why is he is the Prince of Wales?"

Sean went on to say he "felt sorry" for Prince William. He said: "I feel sorry for him, it is hard, it is a difficult position to be in but maybe it says a bit more about the title of the Prince of Wales, should there be one?"

Fellow presenter and former politician Ed Balls said: "I personally love supporting Wales when they play football" but added not when they were playing against England.

New York-born Sean learned Welsh after making a bet on his wedding day with his father-in-law, professor Robert Owen Jones, and is fluent in the language. He's married to TV producer and director, Luned Tonderai.
