Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane has wished Premier League challengers luck catching up with Liverpool and Manchester City after their Community Shield showdown.
The Reds ran out 3-1 winners thanks to goals from Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez after Julian Alvarez levelled proceedings. Both Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola's sides have been at the pinnacle of the Premier League table since the pair locked horns with their respective clubs.
As the two sides added to their firepower in recent years, the gap between the top two and trailing four teams has increased. Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United have all made signings during the summer in a bid to cut the gap but following the curtain raiser at the King Power Stadium, Keane doesn't fancy their chances.

"It’s been a good day for Liverpool," he said in his analysis on ITV's post-match coverage. "A new striker, good habits to get into winning, other teams might be sitting watching this thinking are these teams going to ease off?
"Not with Pep and Klopp in charge; the hunger and desire from both teams. Klopp got a big smile, looks refreshed, got a new contract - good luck stopping these teams.
"You’re always putting markers on teams, they’ll be watching looking for signs. This pre-season, the whole package, options off the bench it really is scary.
"They’ve got big squads, Trent just got interviewed, he looked as if he’d been for a walk in the park. These boys, the fitness levels are mind-boggling. "
