One of the most decorated college basketball players of the last decade is calling it a career.
Gonzaga forward Drew Timme will not exercise the extra year of eligibility allotted to him by the NCAA during the COVID-19 pandemic, he told Seth Davis of The Athletic in an article published Monday. The Richardson, Texas native will leave the Bulldogs after 2023.
“I’ve done my four years,” Timme said. “I’m a senior, and I’m moving on.”
Timme has been a fixture on Gonzaga for four of the most fruitful years in program history. In each of the last four seasons, the Bulldogs have spent time ranked No. 2 or higher. During that time, Timme has averaged 17 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2.4 assists across 127 games. His 2,158 points rank eighth in the history of the West Coast Conference, and his 841 rebounds rank 22nd.
In 2021 and ’22, Timme was named an All-American, and he picked up All-NCAA Tournament honors in ’21. That year, Gonzaga opened 31–0 before losing to Baylor in the national championship. In ’22, the Bulldogs reached similar heights, receiving the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament before succumbing to Arkansas in the Sweet 16.
Currently, Gonzaga is 25–5 and ranked No. 10 in the country, with Timme leading the West Coast Conference in scoring for the third straight year.
