Goldie Hawn suffering from cataracts

Goldie Hawn and Andrew Garfield onstage at the Oscars

Goldie Hawn went public with her battle with cataracts onstage at the Oscars.

The 'Death Becomes Her' star took to the stage at the glitzy prizegiving in Hollywood on Sunday night (02.01.25) to hand out the trophy for Best Animated Feature Film alongside actor Andrew Garfield - and Goldie admitted she was struggling to read the script on the teleprompter because of the eye condition.

She started off by saying: "I was so lucky [to] make movies ... and making people laugh. And maybe some didn't, but that's OK. In the meantime ... "

Goldie then turned to her co-presenter and said: "OK. Sweetheart, can you read that. I can't read that."

She added: "I'm completely blind. I mean, I am!' ... Cataracts."

Andrew then took over reading the script, telling Goldie: "OK, I've got you".

It came after 'The Amazing Spider-Man' star shared a touching moment onstage with Goldie as he thanked her for bringing "joy" to his late mother Lynn, who died in 2019 after a battle with cancer.

Andrew told her: "Goldie, can I tell you something really quickly? There is a person who gave my mother during her life the most joy and comfort – and tonight, I feel very lucky because I get to thank that person from the bottom of my heart. That person is Goldie Hawn.

"You've given us movies full of joy. You've lifted our spirits and you've made us feel it all was right with the world, over and over again."

Goldie appeared to fight back tears as she told the actor: "Thank you so much, that really touches me."

The pair finished their turn on stage at the 2025 Academy Awards by awarding the Best Animated Feature Film prize to 'Flow'.
