Golden State Warriors hire lawyers after leaked footage shows Draymond Green punching teammate

NBA powerhouse the Golden State Warriors have reportedly hired lawyers as they attempt to find out how footage of star player Draymond Green punching a teammate leaked to the media.

The video, which was obtained by TMZ, shows Green punching teammate Jordan Poole during a practice session after a short push and shove.

The Warriors are now "aggressively investigating" how footage of the incident was made public, given it happened during a closed training session.

Green has apologised to Poole and teammates over the incident.

"Everybody's fine," Warriors general manager Bob Myers said before the footage was leaked.

"Look, it's the NBA, professional sports, these things happen. Nobody likes it. We don't condone it, but it happened.

"Draymond apologised to the team this morning, Jordan was there in the room, I was there in the room with the team, the coaches, the players and we heard that."

Warriors star Steph Curry said after the incident that both players needed space to cool down.

"It’s about protecting the team," Curry said.

"And that includes Draymond and JP in that moment. Make sure everybody's cool. Create those boundaries that need to be in place and then get to the conversations that need to happen, like, right away — and the rest of the day and this morning.

"So I didn't know how to kind of rationalise what happened in the moment, but you also kind of just sprang into action. I'm trying to problem-solve as quick as possible."

Reports earlier in the week had suggested Poole's attitude at training had been poor after a breakout season, but coach Steve Kerr put those rumours to rest after the fight.

"Jordan has been fantastic throughout camp," Kerr said.

"Someone put out there that Jordan had an attitude in camp, nothing can be further from the truth. He's been fantastic. Disappointing to see misinformation out there, but I wanted to make sure I set the record straight on that. Everything else we will handle internally and go from there."

The NBA season starts on Wednesday, October 19.
