Golden Globe Awards 2023: A fashionable affair

Hollywood luminaries returned to the red carpet to celebrate hopes and dreams at the 80th Golden Globe Annual Awards this morning. After last year’s critical hiatus, the Golden Globe Annual awards served alluring fashion trends and custom-made glimpses for their favourite megastars. The nominees were voted by 96 members and for the first time, 103 International voters. The new voters were recruited from international industry organizations, well-known foreign film festivals and journalism professionals. This diverse voting group represents 63 different countries around the world. Combined with current membership, the total Golden Globe Awards voting body is now 52% female, 51.8% racially and ethnically diverse with 19.6% Latinx, 12.1% Asian, 10.1% Black, and 10.1% Middle Eastern as per the official website page of the 80th Golden Globe Annual Awards. This year's red carpet arrivals turned out to be more subtle in female leads while men brought fashion trends in the fluidity of colours to the limelight.

Best dressed females

Let's talk about the new talents and their very best arrival at the awards this year.

Quinta Brunson rocked in a custom-made gown from Christian Siriano, Giuseppe Zanotti shoes and Neil Lane jewellery. Keeping it ruffled in the most anticipated colour of the year fuchsia pink and black. Daisy Edgar-Jones looked like a dream in a Gucci custom-made plunging corset embellished with sequins and a tiered ruffle skirt in black. Jenna Ortega arrived in a nude permanent pleated gown, with bell sleeves and cut-out around her midriff. Her butterfly haircut looked eye-catching along with winged eyes and stunning diamond necklaces. She has inborn confidence like Wednesday, waving out her black goth with a wholly molly feminine and angelic comeback to the red carpet.

Michelle Yeoh chose to sparkle in a royal blue gown that was a hybrid peplum that accented her waistline before reaching the ground in a straight line. While Salma Hayek is bedazzled in a beige with a subtle lace pattern and silver frills. Her sheer, sparkly sleeves that flow down her elbows created another dimension for her curves. Lily James looked like a red rose blossoming in a billowing Atelier Versace dress. She brought back old Hollywood glamour in iconic hair and pale skin. Ana De Armas stunned out in a black gown making her look like a Greek goddess.

Margot Robbie wins the title of Hollywood’s official Barbie, looking pretty in Chanel baby pink. She donned a long halter fish cut silhouette gown with frills-dropping stripes. While Selena Gomez posed embodying stunning purple elaborated sleeves complimenting their black off-shoulder gown. Her gown had sleeves that carried a train of fabrics creating drama and character.

Rihanna made a late surprise appearance in a voluminous black gown again with sleeves of trails and with a stunning ribbon of an extremely fabulous bow. She got trending on Twitter at the highest already. Angela Bassett in silver gown and Chopard jewellery enjoys her victory for Black Panther. Jessica Chastain graced it with Oscar de la Renta-created elegant spider webs of crystals. According to her stylist, the dress had a last-minute tailoring at noon and came with a matching webbed mask.

The trend of the GGAA is “Men in Colours”

There were standard black suits and tuxedos but some boys seized the custody of trailblazing trends. Eddie Redmayne emerged in brown with a huge silk flower on one lapel, courtesy of Valentino looking like a new year's gift himself. While Billy Porter arrived like never before in a crimson tuxedo gown with high chunky heeled blinged-out silver boots. He was endorsing a unique interpretation of fashion, wearing Christian Siriano and Yeprem jewellery. Tyler James Williams picked up Amiri spring-summer 23’ Runway look 49 in a shaded blue & grey capped jacket with straight-cut pants. While Andrew Garfield chose to wear a tobacco brown aka burnt orange suit to regain boost on his social media with being a new favourite top-gun boy. Austin Butler showed up in classic black with a bow tie and black shoes, keeping it real.

Adam Scott flaunted a tailored Paul Smith green, wool-mohair suit with a black cummerbund and slim black bow around the crossing. Joining the trends of colours was another man Seth Rogan being progressive in peachy pink. Barry Keoghan had a major moment in a sky-blue shade at the awards. Flashing out knotted bowtie with a short jacket and Aline pants. While Gabriel Janelle The Fablemans star went ahead with a periwinkle blue hue for his three piece suit and bowtie combo. Men in black included the once upon a time in Hollywood cast and crew none other than Brad Pitt and Quentin Tarantino joining Colin Farrell. All the stylish and dapper gents dropped ingenious fashion choices. A-list boys are branching out, embracing colours, patterns and gender-fluid fashion. That can go far beyond the expected notions.

The evening of hopes and dreams conveyed some iconic looks and embellishments with stunning accessories complimenting customised gowns to create fashion junctures. Celebrities brought out some wow-worthy glamour on the red carpet. Though there were suspicions about how luminaries would choose to show up, especially following the show’s suspension after the Hollywood Foreign Press Association was accused of both financial and ethical errors last year, it's clear that the Hollywood razzmatazz is here to stay.
