The Golden Gate Bridge has reopened after demonstrators protesting the war in Gaza temporarily shut down the busy roadway on Monday morning, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Andrew Barclay. Traffic is now flowing smoothly as both sides of the bridge have been reopened. Earlier in the day, protesters also blocked Interstate 880 in Oakland, causing traffic disruptions. The northbound side of the interstate has been cleared, but the southbound side remains closed as protests continue in the area.
Barclay mentioned that arrests have been made and are ongoing in response to the demonstrations. Prior to the law enforcement intervention, protesters were seen holding signs, with one reading 'Stop the world for Gaza.' The situation on I-880 improved later in the day, with traffic resuming normal flow. However, protesters are still active on city streets near the interstate.
California Highway Patrol Officer Art Montiel confirmed that I-880 has reopened to traffic, but the presence of demonstrators in the vicinity persists. Montiel did not provide specific details on the number of arrests made during the incident. The protests on both the Golden Gate Bridge and Interstate 880 caused disruptions and drew attention to the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
