The Nallajarla police busted an illegal gold and cash smuggling racket, with the seizure of ₹4.76 crore cash and 352 gm of gold. Ten persons were arrested in this connection.
The cash was recovered from a private bus, at Ananthapalli toll gate, near Veeravalli village in West Godavari district, said Superintendent of Police Rahul Dev Sharma.
Giving the details of the seizure to the media here on Friday, the SP said that on a tip-off, the team led by Kovvur DSP B. Srinath along intercepted a private bus proceeding from Vijayawada to Srikakulam district, at the toll plaza.
The police also seized three vehicles, which were following the bus, and seized the cash and gold from the passengers .
The arrested were identified as S. Krishna Ramanjaneyulu (bus driver), V. Durga Prasad, Viswas Teja, M. Srinivas, P. Koti, S. Papa Rao, R. Narendra, G. Lakshman Rao, A. Kishore and P. Ramesh, natives of Vijayawada and Eluru, the SP said.
Police alerted the Income Tax and the Customs Department officials. A case has been registered and investigation is on, Mr. Sharma added.
