Gold award delight for Perth butcher D G Lindsay & Son

Proud Perth butchers D G Lindsay & Son have once again proved they are a cut above.

The business, based in North Methven Street, struck gold with their sirloin steak for the autumn of 2022.

D G Lindsay & Son’s success came in the recent Scottish Craft Butcher Awards evaluation for Naked Steak and Gourmet Pastry products that were judged at Forth Valley College.

Owner Beaton Lindsay was delighted to be presented with his award at the recent regional meeting at Dewars Centre, held by the event organisers. In total, there were 60 entries in the Naked Steak category.

Beaton made sure to highlight that his sirloin steaks are locally reared at Woodhead of Mailer Farm – just up at Necessity Brae – by George McFadzean.

“I try to keep things as local as possible,” a delighted Beaton explained to the Perthshire Advertiser. “It is completely Perth and we are very proud of that.

“The federation was doing a naked steak competition for a change to get to the grassroots of butchery.

“I think we were the only ones to get a gold in the close-by area. It is lovely getting a wee bit of recognition for your quality. We don’t shout about these things enough.

“It highlights what we are trying to work for – the quality you get from a private butcher shop.

“There is a lot of hard work that goes into it. It is a team effort in the shop. Everything we do is a team effort.”

Taking home a Silver Award for their sirloin steak was The House of Bruar at Blair Atholl.

Scottish Craft Butchers noted local craft butchers are once again showing that they “really are the go-to choice” for consumers who expect “something special”.

Tom Courts, president of the Scottish Craft Butchers, added: “We run these evaluations not just to reward excellence but to underline the diverse product range that Scottish Craft Butchers offer.

“Local butchers are the specialists in our field and with customers becoming more adventurous with their tastes they are always seeking out the assurance of provenance that shopping at a specialist provides.”

The Naked Steak evaluation was sponsored by Dalziel Ltd and senior manager, David Darroch, said: “Dalziel Ltd are always delighted to support Scottish Craft Butchers in the development and promotion of the high-quality products they produce.

“Sirloin steak is one of the traditional cuts that butchers up and down the country are renowned for, the quality of entries was exceptionally high, and we congratulate all the award winners.”
