Taiwanese electric mobility brand Gogoro is considered a pioneer in the industry, as it’s one of the first companies to fully embrace e-mobility in both the product side and the infrastructure side. Gogoro has enjoyed quite a lot of success in recent years, and has started expanding to multiple markets, most of which in Asia, thanks to its swappable battery infrastructure and compatibility with last-mile delivery and ride sharing services.
While we’ve talked a lot about Gogoro’s battery swapping technology, the company has also been hard at work on the product side, developing new models that can meet the ever-changing demands of consumers. Its newest introduction is a first for many reasons, and it’s called the CrossOver. As its name suggests, it’s meant to tackle both on and off-road terrain, and while a lot of manufacturers have been venturing into the adventure scooter space, Gogoro is the first mainstream brand to release an electric adventure scooter.
Gogoro calls the CrossOver its first “two-wheel SUV,” and while calling a compact scooter an SUV may seem like a stretch, the CrossOver does offer quite a lot more utility than a standard electric scooter. For starters, it’s easily customizable, allowing riders to configure the two-wheeler according to their needs and preferences. It can be fitted with a wide range of accessories such as front and rear luggage racks, allowing you to set it up for both city commutes and light off-road adventures. On top of that, it has four built-in cargo compartments.
On the performance front, the CrossOver is powered by a 7.6 kilowatt electric motor and the brand’s proprietary Flo Drive belt drive system which is acclaimed for its low maintenance and silent operations. The entire scooter is underpinned by a newly developed all-terrain chassis, reinforced for extra rigidity, and lifted to provide 14.2 centimeters (5.6 inches) of ground clearance. The scooter comes to a stop with a synchronized braking system, and features a telescopic front fork and a dual shock absorber setup at the rear. It rolls on 12-inch wheels shod in Maxxis dual-purpose rubber.
As for technology, the CrossOver is fully integrated into Gogoro’s mesh of connectivity features. It includes LTE smart remote services, and compatibility with the company’s mobile app. Additional safety features include a Traction Control System (TCS) and an optional cruise control feature.
When it comes to availability, Gogoro has announced the launch of the CrossOver initially in the Taiwanese market, and in two trim versions consisting of CrossOver and CrossOver S. Furthermore, we decided to reach out to Gogoro to see if the CrossOver will eventually make its way outside of Taiwan. We were pleasantly surprised with their quick response, as they stated that they do have plans of rolling it out in other markets in the future.
