Gogglebox welcomes new Scottish family to Channel 4 for first time in six years

A Scots couple will appear on Channel 4’s hit programme Gogglebox tonight for the first time in six years.

Glasgow-based Roisin and Joe will feature on the show after a recent plea to include a Scottish family in the line-up.

The pair, aged 23 and 25, will join other loved cast members of the hit show to give their opinions on a variety of different TV shows throughout the series.

The newest Scottish couple have been together for four years and live at Joe’s family home after moving in together at the start of lockdown.

Gogglebox announced on Twitter: "Meet our new Scottish Goggleboxers Roisin and Joe! See you on the sofa for brand new #Gogglebox TONIGHT, 9pm on @Channel4."

The channel came under pressure to find a Scottish family to appear on the show after MPs demanded the programme reflect the make-up of the country.

Channel 4 launched a dedicated casting team to find Scottish contestants after the backlash.

In September, a Commons Scottish Affairs committee session took place about on Public Broadcasting in Scotland.

Scottish icon Lorraine Kelly has previously featured on Gogglebox alongside her daughter Rosie woh received the dog fouling letter from the then Prime Minister (Channel 4)

And it was revealed there was a real lack of Scots talent on the show.

At the time Pete Wishart MP, chair of the Scottish Affairs Committee, said: “A theme which came up in our evidence session was the lack of a Scottish family on Gogglebox.

"It is clear some have approached the channel with similar concern, often offering themselves as an option. I am therefore pleased to see a dedicated team tasked with this and look forward to seeing the successful family on our screens in the new series”

Channel 4's chief executive confirmed the hunt was on to find Scottish contenders.

Following the news, viewers posted up their comments on social media.

One asked: "Will there be subtitles?"

Another ventured: "So who’s been dropped then?

Someone else said: 'I was just saying to the Mrs last night while she was watching a recorded episode that there was no Scots. Well done."

Gogglebox's newest family will join the Channel 4 show tonight when the show returns for another episode at 9pm.
