Gogglebox viewers not impressed with 'nauseating' new celebrity signing for latest series

Gogglebox fans were left unimpressed after a new famous face signed up for the show.

Former Number 10 Chief Press Secretary Alastair Campbell and his 29-year-old daughter Grace joined the panel of armchair critics on the Channel 4 show. Alastair, 66, was the Chief Press Secretary and official spokesperson for former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and is also an author and journalist.

He shared his Gogglebox news with a photo of him sitting on the sofa with his author and comedian daughter as they laughed at something on the television. "If I was in two minds about doing @bbcquestiontime Brexit special last night I was in about two hundred minds about doing this one," he wrote on Twitter on Friday evening.

"But @GraceCampbell said it would be good for her 'brand'. Must be amazing to have a brand when one so young! #bulliedDad."

Fans took to the comment section to share their thoughts on the news, reports The Mirror, and it was clear a number of people were not happy. "Nauseating," one disappointed user said while another posted: "You have a brand Alastair, just it’s very tainted."

One Twitter user wrote: "Your soul is missing, I can see it in your eyes.

"I don’t celebrate these two," one person said.

However, a few of his fans paid no mind to the criticism and celebrated his latest TV venture. Other Celebrity Gogglebox stars who joined the series included Ricky Tomlinson and Sue Johnston, Davina McCall and her boyfriend Michael Douglas, comedian Katherine Ryan and her husband Bobby, as well as BBC star Chris Packham with his step-daughter Megan.

Meanwhile, Alastair's daughter Grace previously revealed he was approached to join I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! before Matt Hancock jumped at the chance. "My dad said no he's not doing it because he's just like extremely boring. But can you imagine me, my dad and Matt Hancock could have been in the jungle together this year," she said last year.
