Gogglebox fans were left in stitches on Friday night when Jenny Newby revealed she had bought a special gift for her friend and co-star Lee Riley from a sex shop.
The award winning Channel 4 reality show returned to screens at the end of the week for the launch of series 19 of the show – with cast members reuniting to watch a weeks worth of TV together.
It was revealed that 65-year-old Jenny had enjoyed a recent holiday to Benidorm where she bought 51-year-old Lee a special gift.
Cameras captured the moment Lee unwrapped a box to find a slanted mug with included a rainbow flag design around the body of the drinking device.
Lee was shown laughing at the mug – while Jenny read out a slogan that was written on one side.
She readL “I’m so gay, I can't even drink straight!"
She then added: “I saw it in a sex shop!"
A shocked Lee then whipped around to face Jenny, his laugher immediately ceased, and he asked: “What was you doing in a sex shop in Benidorm?"
Jenny then innocently insister: “I saw it in the window!"
Fans of the Channel 4 show took to Twitter in their droves to comment on the moment – expressing surprise and widespread amusement.
One fan tweeted: “‘I saw it in the window’ Oh aye Jenny, we believe you.”
Another typed: “‘I saw it in a sex shop, I saw it in the window’ Jenny is such a legend.”
Another fan typed: “Omg I’ve missed Jenny and Lee so much.
A further fan gushed: “Oh dear. I haven’t laughed so much in months! They’re killing it tonight!!! Jenny and Lee.”
And another proclaimed: “#Gogglebox would not be Gogglebox without Jenny and Lee. They are brilliant..Love them!”
Lee and Jenny’s history, and the beginnings of their friendship, has recently been recounted – much to the delight of fans.
The pair first met in 1994 when Jenny was the landlady of a pub in Yorkshire - and they quickly became inseparable.
"Lee was a customer at my pub, The Crown Inn in Paull" she told Ireland's Big Issue.
"He became a regular in 1994 and used to come in pretty much every night with his partner and we were friends from the off.
"We've been best friends ever since."
Lee joked: "I wish I've never gone in the pub – it cost me a fortune.
"When I first met her she had a perm and I can remember thinking, 'she needs a haircut'. We were firm friends immediately."
He added: "I don't think we've ever had an argument. We're too placid to argue. She makes me laugh too much for me to ever fall out with her."
Gogglebox airs on Channel 4 on Friday nights at 9pm.
