Gogglebox stars have say on I'm a Celebrity as Matt Hancock joins jungle

Plenty of Gogglebox viewers will have been looking forward to this week's show to find out what everyone's favourite armchair critics had to say about former Health Secretary Matt Hancock appearing on I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! But many may have been left disappointed by the lack of banter about Mr Hancock joining the reality ITV hit.

Mr Hancock's entry to the Australian jungle gained a mixed response from the public. Some viewers thought it would be hilarious to see the controversial politician undergo the notorious Bushtucker trials - but others found it inappropriate for the serving MP to leave his constituents back home to be on the programme.

The Goggleboxers gave some comical thoughts during the Channel 4 favourite tonight (November 11). But there was no witty discussion about Mr Hancock.

Instead, they watched a clip from Sunday's launch episode of I'm a Celebrity (Mr Hancock didn't join until Wednesday) when Jill Scott, Charlene White and Babatunde Aléshé took part in a daring walk the plank challenge from a terrifying height. On Charlene, Goggleboxer Pete remarked: "It's a bit mad, really, isn't it, going from reading the news to eating potentially a camel's d***."

Jenny and Lee made plenty of people chuckle. Jenny said: "I don't know if I'd sooner walk the plank or eat c***. I meant pigs... not pig's c***. Oh, that sounds awful, don't it.

"No, I mean, you know, like... was it pigs? Or something's c***."

A chuckling Lee replied: "Don't matter, Jenny. You've done both."

Jenny responded 'yeah' before quickly exclaiming: "What am I saying 'yeah' for?! I haven't!"

On Twitter, Caz75304934 said: "Jenny has me in stitches." @ciranna commented: "Jenny is the gift that gives on giving." But @rogernook asked: "Where's Hancock?"

Earlier, Jenny and Lee took to Instagram to reveal they were enjoying seeing Mr Hancock being forced to take the dreaded trials. They shared a snap to reveal they had voted for the Tory MP alongside the caption: "Couldn't help myself sorry folks. NOT. Anyone else voting."

On last night's I'm a Celebrity, Mr Hancock discussed his resignation as Health Secretary after he was caught on CCTV kissing a colleague while social distancing guidelines were in place. He told fellow contestants: "A lot of people had difficult times and then to see people who set the rules broke them, it was a slap in the face.

"I know how people felt and that's why I resigned. Because I know how people felt."

Other shows discussed on Gogglebox tonight were Hollyoaks, Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy, Queens for the Night, Alexander Armstrong In South Korea, University Challenge and BBC News' coverage of the COP27 climate conference.

Gogglebox airs Friday nights at 9pm on Channel 4. Episodes are also available on All4.
