Gogglebox's The Malones explain new series absence as fans left concerned

The Malone family have assured Gogglebox viewers they'll 'be back,' after their absence from the launch of the new series sparked concern.

After a few months away, when viewers had to be satisfied with the celebrity version, Gogglebox returned to the Friday night schedules on Channel 4 last week. The latest run of the hit show returned just a day after the Queen's death, with some speculation that it may be postponed as the broadcaster covered the events that followed Her Majesty's passing, at the age of 96.

With just hours to go until the first episode was set to air, execs issued an update, saying that it would be shown as planned, with the statement reading: "Channel 4 exists to offer viewers an alternative and that is particularly important at times like this.

“Gogglebox is a much loved national institution and it will air as planned tonight bringing a valuable sense of continuity for many of our viewers.”

However, while the programme was shown and the likes of Jenny and Lee and Pete and Sophie were present and correct, it didn't take long for fans to clock that The Malones, part of the furniture on Gogglebox for a number of years now, were nowhere to be seen.

Thankfully, all worries that they might have quit the show on the quiet have been put to bed from the family themselves, who have confirmed them being missing in action from the first episode was down to the fact that they are on holiday.

Taking to Instagram in front of the famous globe at Disney's Epcot Center, Tom Snr said: "We're on holiday...Jesus Christ it doesn't feel like it with this lot, let me tell you that! We're in Florida, so we're not here for the first few shows."

Tom signed off by telling fans to enjoy the show without them, adding that they'd be back "in a few weeks."
