Gogglebox's Pete and Sophie have viewers in tears with their Ukraine discussion

For a show that's simply about watching people watch TV on TV, Gogglebox doesn't half capture the mood of the nation sometimes and in the latest episode of the new series, siblings Pete and Sophie Sandiford had the audience crying over their emotional chat about the attack on Ukraine.

The pair were reacting to news footage of families splitting up as women and children flee the country and men between the ages of 18 and 60 are made to stay to fight for their country as Russian forces invade from the east.

Pete was lost as to what he would do.

"I don't know how I'd feel if I got held back to fight the war," he said. "You can't go 'no, I'm going' but by the same token do I want to be getting shot at and potentially killed."

His sister Sophie said it was "choking me up even thinking about that, cos I would just stay with you".

Pete replied: "No you wouldn't, because I wouldn't let you."

Then as Sophie, began to weep, Pete added: "Stop you k*******, cos you're going to make me cry.

"We're here you f****** idiot."

To which she replied: "I know but it's just scary."

The heartbreaking conversation struck a chord with viewers, with many of them praising the bond between the siblings.

@animalmad08 tweeted: "Just when you think you couldn't love Pete and Sophie any more.... "

Christina McMahon also said: "Hoping I wasn't the only person to shed a tear at Pete and Sophie's Ukraine chat"

And Sadie Stephanie echoed the pair's sentiments: "Sophie & Pete choked me up, it’s true you can’t help but put yourselves in their shoes #Ukraine"

Jemma on Twitter put it simply: "Pete and Sophie have me in tears tonight!"
