Gogglebox's Mica Ven praised for speaking out about 'hypocrisy' of Homes for Ukraine scheme

Fans of Gogglebox couple Mica Ven and Marcus Luther have shown their support after Mica spoke out about the Government's Homes of Ukraine Scheme. Mica criticised the initiative during the popular Channel 4 show after watching a piece on BBC News.

The government launched its Homes for Ukraine site on Monday, March 14, with 100,000 signing up within the first day. Each household housing a refugee will be offered £350 a month, tax-free, under the scheme. Housing and Communities Secretary Michael Gove said the UK had a history of "supporting the most vulnerable during their darkest hours".

But Gogglebox families shared their thoughts on the scheme as they were shown watching a BBC News segment in the Gogglebox episode on Friday, March 18, reported Birmingham Live. And Mica wasn't shy in sharing her thoughts with her partner Marcus.

She said: "Not being funny, this isn't the first refugee situation, you know what I mean? How come only now there's incentives to encourage people to help refugees?" Viewers were quick to praise for 'speaking the truth'. They took to Twitter to comment.

One Twitter user said: "Mica talking the truth there! #Gogglebox." Another wrote: "Misha spoke facts #gogglebox." While a third added: "Good on Misha for calling out the hypocrisy regarding refugees.#Gogglebox."

Social media users continued. One person wrote: "Nice work there, Misha, 'why NOW?' We all know why there's a welcome now. #Gogglebox." Another said: "Yes, Mica. Carry on. Why do you think such a scheme only applied to Ukrainian refugees? #Gogglebox." And another added: "Mica speaking sense #Gogglebox."

Gogglebox airs on Channel 4 on Friday at 9pm.
