Gogglebox's Lee Riley has given an update on his sidekick Jenny Newby after revealing she was in hospital. The Channel 4 star was without his co-star and best pal as he hit the red carpet on Sunday night (May 8).
Lee, alongside fellow Goggleboxers Marcus Luther and Mica Ven, represented the popular programme at the Bafta TV Awards 2022 which took place at the Royal Festival Hall in London over the weekend. And the trio made it onto the stage as the show picked up the Best Reality and Constructed Factual gong.
The Channel 4 series beat off stiff competition from The Dog House, Married at First Sight and RuPaul's Drag Race UK to bag the award at the star-studded ceremony.
But Jenny's absence didn't go unnoticed as it also came days after she and Lee were missing from the latest episode of Gogglebox on Friday (May 6). Speaking to the Daily Star on the red carpet, Lee said Jenny "isn't very well" and needed an operation.
"She is not very well, she is having an operation, a mini one, but she is recovering well though," he said. She was invited but the appointment was in BAFTA week. You can't turn down an NHS operation down can you? But she is doing well."
After being flooded with messages, Lee has taken to the pair's joint Instagram page and issued a video message. He said from his caravan in Hull where he films the show alongside Jenny: "Hi everybody, just an update on Jenny. Yes, she has had an operation, but it's been on the waiting list for two years and it come Bafta week, so I was totally gutted that she couldn't be by my side last night and she was as well."
He added: "Thank you for caring, you're great," before captioning the post: Thank you. Thank you for caring much love to you all." And once again the post was flooded with messages.
Fellow Gogglebox star Lisa Baggs wrote: "Bless her ! Please send all our love to her," while Mica, who stunned on the Baftas red carpet in a matching outfit with partner Marcus, added a string of hearts to the post.
@koalabelle8 commented: "Awww get well soon soon Jenny. Congrats to all on your well deserved Bafta and I thought you looked mint in your suit last night Lee!"
"Sending her love. We adore you both," @annettemhope said as @greenhownoreen shared: "Congratulations on winning the BAFTA, so glad Jenny is feeling better and hope to see you both soon."
@jomo4921 replied: "You 2 are fantastic on gogglebox, hope Jenny gets well soon and congratulations to you both," while @skippy1105 added: "Get well soon Jenny... not the same without you by his side."
As Lee picked up the Bafta TV award on Sunday night, he said it was for the "past and present families who have been on Gogglebox" before adding: "It is an honour to get it for them."
