Gogglebox’s Jenny pays tribute to co-star Lee with cheeky message ahead of new series

Gogglebox star Jenny Newby has thanked her co-star and ‘bezzie mate’ Lee Riley in a cheeky but heartfelt message after finally receiving a BAFTA TV award.

The popular Channel 4 show won Best Reality and Constructed Factual at the awards back in May, but Jenny was unable to appear on the red carpet due to being in hospital. The fan favourite pair, who often leave viewers in stitches with their banter as they watch TV highlights of the week from Lee’s caravan, were missing from some episodes of the last series while Jenny underwent an operation .

But Lee confirmed that the pair will return in the upcoming new series of Gogglebox, which is due to start on September 9 on Channel 4. And Jenny was all smiles as she gave her belated BAFTA acceptance speech from her garden in a video to Lee, The Mirror reports .

“Hiya Lee, it's only me,” she began, proudly holding up the iconic award. “I've got my BAFTA!

“I know I couldn't be there with you on the night – I swapped my evening gown for my theatre gown, and my black stockings for surgical stockings, and my silver clutch bag for a catheter bag,” she added. “But all in all, I never got to say thank you to you, you know, for the support you gave me through the pandemic when we was filming.

“You know, and the things that you did for me like giving me that 9ft by 5ft bedroom – wall to wall... walls, and enough room under the bed for my Pot Noodle and a packet of fags. And the one shelf you gave me in the kitchen - and I needed to stand on a step to get to it!”

Jenny finished off the hilarious message with a heartfelt tribute: “But I just want to say all in all Lee, thank you very much for being my bezzie mate, and I'm hoping to see you soon. Bye bye.”

Lee posted the video to the pair’s Instagram page, writing: “This is why I love this woman. Thank you for your kind words Jenny [laughing emojis], see you next week.”
