Gogglebox's Jenny Newby was forced to miss the BAFTAs as she needed an operation.
The popular Channel 4 programme picked up the prize for Best Reality and Constructed Factual show at last night's prestigious ceremony. Jenny's co-star, Lee Riley, attended the glitzy bash to pick up the award on behalf of the Gogglebox cast.
Lee and Jenny have established themselves as fan favourites on the show for their hilarious observations on the week's best TV. However, viewers were concerned when the reality TV stars were absent from the most recent episode.
Lee spoke to the Daily Star on the red carpet ahead of the BAFTAs and explained Jenny is recovering after receiving treatment. He said: "She is not very well, she is having an operation, a mini one, but she is recovering well though.
"She was invited but the appointment was in BAFTA week. You can't turn down an NHS operation down can you? But she is doing well."
The cast of Gogglebox were in jubilant spirits following a successful evening at the BAFTAs. Lee Riley's partner, Steve, penned a touching tribute to his long time boyfriend after he picked up the award.
He said: "I am literally the proudest man in northern Cyprus right now a massive congratulations to Channel 4 and studio Lambert and the cast of Gogglebox on tonight’s well deserved BAFTA win. And to the love of my life who I am so proud of accepting the award for the best show on TV see you soon in the sunshine love you to the moon and back."
Followers flooded the comments to congratulate the Gogglebox cast after the win.
Bex posted: "So chuffed! Well deserved "
Karen added: "Many many congratulations to all the Gogglebox Gang. Well deserved"
Michelle said: "Aw so unbelievably proud of them both, the cast and the team behind it all."
