Gogglebox's Dave and Shirley's Spain holiday disaster due to TUI hotel 'shambles'

Gogglebox stars Dave and Shirley Griffiths have detailed their recent holiday hell, after a trip on the sunny shores of Spain soon turned into a complete 'shambles'.

The Welsh couple quickly became family favourites of the Channel 4 show, shortly after debuting back in 2015 - and recently opted to switch out their cosy sofa at home for a stunning getaway in Salou.

Documenting their trip last month, the couple took to social media to show the sights of the Costa Dorada hotspot, but the good times were far from rolling with Dave citing a series of problems faced at their hotel.

He also took the liberty of complaining directly to holiday provider TUI, upon discovering that the hotel had no running water.

On Twitter, he raged: "@TUIUK what's happening at the hotel h10 vintage Salou all the electricity is off no water no toilets no food, can't even flush the toilet rep doesn't have no idea it's a shambles its been off since 2 o clock this afternoon now 11.30 and still not sorted."

The Mirror reports that TUI got back to the couple 24 hours later, with a Tweet of their own, reading: "Hi Dave, I am sorry to hear there is an issue in resort. As you are in resort we are unable to assist further and would direct you to call our 24/7 holiday line who will be able to advise further. The number is +44 (0) 3333 365147. Thank you, ^Tamara."

And Dave and Shirley's followers were also quick to take to the comments section to complain about the supposed service. One, wrote: "Not good at all! A lot of unhappy campers here tonight," while another, added: "That is bloody shocking."

A spokesperson for TUI has since confirmed on social media that 'all facilities are now operating as normal'.

They added: "We completely understand how frustrating a short power outage can be and would like to apologise to those customers impacted at the H10 Mediterranean Village in Spain. Our TUI team contacted all customers staying at the hotel once the power was restored to offer a gesture of goodwill."
