Gogglebox receives almost 150 complaints for airing controversial scene

Channel 4's Gogglebox has come under fire for its coverage of Apple TV's Roar. Ofcom received almost 150 complaints about a scene that involved a woman and a duck. Families from hit series Gogglebox - including siblings Sophie and Pete Sandiford and besties Jenny Newby and Lee Riley - were visibly shocked by the scene.

Watching the clip from Roar: The Woman Who Was Fed by a Duck the families looked on as Eliza (played by Merritt Wever) started to undress herself in front of a duck. In disbelief, Helena and her family from Manchester cried out, "Shut up! Give over!"

Following the clip, viewers took to Twitter to express their shock that Channel 4 had featured it on Gogglebox. Andrew J Mullen went to the extent of saying: "Is there no limit to the depth of depravity that producers will stoop to these days?" Another tweeter said that they'd "never look at a duck the same again".

Ofcom has now said that they have received 149 complaints about the episode.. Roar is a feminist anthology series, which premiered earlier this month and is based on the 2018 short story collection of the same name by Cecelia Ahern. It features actress Nicole Kidman as a producer.
