Gogglebox Giles and Mary among those getting teary over death of Queen

Gogglebox is known more for its levity than most programmes, but even the TV viewers we love to watch have their sombre side. Tonight's show (Friday) paid an emotional tribute to Queen Elizabeth II.

From Giles and Mary to Lee and Jenny, the regulars were all shown in shock after watching the BBC's Huw Edwards make the historic announcement that the monarch had passed away at Balmoral.

As the BBC played God Save The Queen for the last time over images of the late monarch, there is an immediate reaction from the stars. Giles and Mary are shown, Mary looking close to tears as Giles reached out.

"Steady, steady," Giles said as he touched her shoulder.

Jenny reacted to the images with her own tears, saying: "Do you know, Lee, we used to have pictures like that in our school when we was little."

Being Doris @BeingDoris was very much moved by the display, tweeting: "When the families we know and love on #Gogglebox hear the news about The Queen it’s so touching to see them reach out and hold each other’s hands."

Nicky Edwards @NickyEdwards acknowledged watching the Goggleboxers experience the sad moment was very modern, tweeting: "Watching the #gogglebox crew watch Huw Edwards announce the death of the Queen is meta but moving."

And Jimmy Criddle @JimmyCridd spoke for many when he said: "Watching others watch the announcement of the death of the Queen got me right in the feels! #Gogglebox [sic]"

But after all the emotion, though, one viewer still found the laugh.

Bedtime Stories for Mothers and Others @FayeHayden18 tweeted: "I love Gogglebox, Mary discussing the absence of a significant female role model in Britain following the death of the Queen. Giles replies: What about Mary Berry?"
