Gogglebox fans have reacted angrily after sofa star Mary was seen defending Prime Minister Boris Johnson during a GMB interview in this week's episode. Mr Johnson was interviewed on the programme by Susanna Reid on Tuesday (May 6).
During a discussion about the cost of living crisis, the presenter brought up the plight of a 77-year-old woman named Elsie who has only one meal a day. The pensioner also travels on buses during the day to keep her household bills down.
When Mr Johnson was asked about the situation on the programme, Mary - watching as usual with partner Giles - picked a side that wasn't too popular." I'm very sorry for Elsie, but Susanna is making out that it's Boris' fault and Boris doesn't care," she said to Giles.
He responded: "Whose fault is it?" Mary answered: "Well it's the global situation."
l @Iongwayoff tweeted: "mary feeling sorry for bumbling boris and the porn watching mp is my villain origin story #Gogglebox." aims @lovesuckpippy said: "love gogglebox but if mary doesn’t stop defending boris i’ll be writing a strongly worded email."
Michael X @GeordieJersey1 added: "Think Boris could set fire to Giles and Mary’s house and she would still defend him and probably blame the global situation #Gogglebox "
