Gogglebox family break silence on 'disappointing' axe from Channel 4 show

Gogglebox star Chantelle Walker, her mother Elizabeth and sister Monique were 'disappointed' to find out they were axed from the show.

The family were only shown on the screen for a couple of episodes in 2020 before they disappeared from the Channel 4 series.

According to 26-year-old Chantelle, Gogglebox put them on hiatus and there was "silence for months".

"There was silence for a while and we didn’t know what was going on for months. Then they dropped us, which was a shock," she said.

The producers told them there weren't "enough cameras" to film them but Chantelle later found out their contract wasn't being renewed.

"It was a really good experience doing Gogglebox... but it was a bit disappointing, I feel like we should have had more airtime but they chose to use less of us," she explained.

She added to The Sun : "It was fun but I wish it could have been for longer. If I was asked to go on Gogglebox again I would do it.”

Her family filmed for Gogglebox during the pandemic. They even used Airbnb as they weren't able to use their own homes.

Dame Sheila Hancock, 90, recently claimed she'd been sacked from Celebrity Gogglebox.

The acclaimed actress reckons she wasn't asked back by bosses after expressing dismay at how much nudity she was required to watch.

Maureen Lipman also walked last year after saying 'life is too short to watch a series of hopeless men dangle their bits and pieces in my direction.'

Series star Chris Ashby-Steed quit the show in 2019 after having appeared on the sofa with his former partner Stephen Webb.

Following his exit in 2019, Chris spoke to the Mirror about his departure, claiming his ex ended their production deal with Channel 4 without talking to him about it first.

He said: "After he sent that email I didn’t speak to him for a little while because I was hurt by it."

Chris then claimed that the show's producers said the popular pair could appear with new partners on alternate weeks, with Stephen bringing in his mum and the hairdresser's partner Daniel ended up making the cut.
