Gogglebox death leaves viewers 'in tears' as Scots regulars grab the tissues

Gogglebox watchers both on-screen and at home were left in tears after a touching moment in Friday's episode.

The floodgates opened among regulars during a segment showing a nature documentary. The clip from the Apple TV series involved an Octopus that died after laying its eggs.

One couch duo that couldn't hide their sadness were Scots couple Joe and Roisín, with the latter joking that she'd need to grab the tissues to wipe back tears, reports Chronicle Live.

Motivated by what she'd seen, Roisín added: “I want to be the new face of aquatic resistance.”

The show, narrated by British actor Tom Hiddleston, also left viewers at home reeling, as many took to social media to share their feelings. One viewer @_mollierust said: “Never thought an octopus would reduce me to tears but here we are #gogglebox.”

The pair were made cast regulars in 2022, being the first Scottish participants on the show in six years (PA)

Another viewer @suzysasha added: “#Gogglebox Aww, poor wee octopus.” While @suze1301 posted: “That John Lewis ad after that octopus sacrifice. I’m not crying, you're crying #gogglebox.”

At the start of Friday’s episode, Gogglebox paid tribute to TV legends Paul O'Grady and Len Goodman following their recent deaths.

The Strictly judge passed away last week aged 78 following a brief battle with bone cancer. While TV presenter and comedian O'Grady died last month aged 67 due to cardiac arrhythmia.

Gogglebox Fans are able to watch the 21st series on Channel 4 at 9pm every Friday night, or online on the All4 streaming service.
