If you found God of War 2018’s bosses a bit too easy, then worry not as Ragnarök has plenty of challenging big-bads ready to tear you limb from limb. Alva is an early-game boss that it designed to teach you about interrupting enemy attacks, which you can do by double-tapping L1 while a blue ring is around them.
We’ll talk you through the fight in detail and how to come out of it unscathed.
How to beat Alva - God of War Ragnarök
Alva’s attack patterns are pretty well-telegraphed, and you should be able to learn them quickly. The mechanic of this fight is the blue rings, which appears around Alva when they’re winding up an action. You just need to double tap L1 when this ring is visible and you’ll interrupt the action, giving the opportunity to attack.
Once you get her health down a bit she’ll start throwing out more vicious attacks with a much long combo of strikes. You can block or parry most of this, except for the fourth strike, which is an unblockable ground stomp – get your dodging shoes on.
She also decided to start throwing her blades at you eventually. Your best course of action there is to roll under them, but you can parry them if you’re good enough. The energy blast she occasionally fires out cannot though.
After you get her into critical condition, she’ll start to heal up using the light of Alfheim. You can stop this by using the interruption technique and then executing a shield bash for a finisher, which will end the fight.
