'God forbid' - Chelsea 'may well' have Mauricio Pochettino lined up to replace Thomas Tuchel

Simon Jordan has shuddered at the prospect of former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino becoming the new manager following the sacking of Thomas Tuchel.

The decision to relieve the Champions League-winning tactician from his managerial duties at Chelsea comes in light of their shock 1-0 defeat against Dinamo Zagreb. Their disappointment in Croatia follows defeats against Leeds United and Southampton in an underwhelming start for the Blues.

Tuchel's departure marks the first managerial casualty under the new stewardship of Todd Boehly. The American businessman backed the former Borussia Dortmund and PSG manager heavily in the transfer window as their outlay exceeded £200m but has taken the decision to axe the 49-year-old.

The decision has come as a surprise to many. Not least, talkSPORT's Jordan says "god forbid" that Pochettino could be in line.

"They've obviously got someone lined up, they've made the decision. God forbid it's not Pochettino but may well be," he told talkSPORT on Wednesday.

"The bottom line is they've made a decision. It doesn't feel like a football decision, he hasn't been right. They haven't been great, but Tuchel has enough currency in footballing terms to have been given an opportunity to correct this slight malaise.

"This game in the Champions League is incidental. They're qualifying, going to come out of it, it's not a great result on the back of Leeds and Southampton, but not withstanding that, it's incidental, they'll qualify.

"I'd be gobsmacked if they didn't. He does find himself at clubs with ownerships at odds with him, he was relatively successful at PSG but found himself on the other side of an argument very quickly. Here he is almost, almost the same amount of time at PSG [before being sacked]."
