Goalkeeper James Trafford makes ambitious Man City declaration when outlining aims for Bolton loan

Manchester City's group of talented young goalkeepers are queueing up to succeed Ederson at the Etihad, as teenager James Trafford is the latest to declare his ambitions of making it with the Blues.

Ederson is the undisputed number one at City, and is under contract until 2026, while back-up stopper Zack Steffen recently committed his future at the club until 2025.

Irish number one Gavin Bazunu, impressing at Portsmouth, has made his intentions of playing for City clear already this season, and now another academy teammate has revealed his ambitions with the club.

Fresh from swapping a loan at Accrington for their League One rivals Bolton, Trafford says his new club provides him with the perfect step in his development with the City no.1 jersey his end-goal.

"I believe I will be City number one, one day," he told BBC Radio Manchester.

"The more experience I get with the ball at my feet at Bolton, playing a similar way to how I'll play one day at City, it's better for my experience rather than other clubs in League One and elsewhere. A lot of clubs play really direct which I don't see myself doing at City one day.

"It suits me a lot more with the ball at my feet, I feel a lot more comfortable playing high because we hold a high line here. It's just I feel the best step in my development right now."

Trafford was a key part of the City academy side that won the Premier League 2 last season, and featured on the bench for the first team on a handful of occasions, as well as being involved in some matchday travelling squads.

He started the season at first choice at Accrington, but lost his place and has now swapped Accrington for Bolton for the second half of the campaign, keeping a clean sheet on his debut last weekend.
