Goalkeeper Courtney Brosnan makes Everton 'ambition' claim as contract decision made

Everton have taken up the option to extend goalkeeper Courtney Brosnan’s contract for another year.

Brosnan joined Everton on a free transfer from West Ham United in July 2021 and has since cemented herself as an integral part of the squad, making 16 appearances in all competitions last term. The Republic of Ireland international, who was born and raised in New Jersey, played a crucial role in securing her country's qualification for their first ever Women's World Cup finals, which will get underway in Australia and New Zealand next month.

Brosnan's impressive displays between the sticks saw her named the Republic of Ireland's Player of the Season and, on Wednesday, she was included in Vera Pauw's final 23-player squad for this summer's showpiece tournament. The 27-year-old's existing Everton deal was set to expire this summer but the club have now moved to ensure she stays at the club until at least 2024.

On her extended deal, Brosnan said: “I’m really excited and happy to have extended my time at Everton. Last season was excellent, with a great group of girls and seeing the progress we made. I’m excited to be back next season and hopefully continue on that path and keep on improving.

“Everton is a fantastic club, with great ambition so it’s good to be a part of. It’s really exciting to be able to come in every day and see the progress we have made and push together towards our goals. It’s something I love being a part of and I’m looking forward to next season to continue on that path.”
