'Goal accomplished' - Cristiano Ronaldo's selfless response to Portugal Euro 2024 qualifiers

Former Manchester United striker Cristiano Ronaldo has praised Portugal's achievements in Euro 2024 qualifying rather than his own personal accomplishments after his national team made it two wins from two matches.

During the international break, Ronaldo broke yet another record as he became the most capped international footballer of all time in the 4-0 victory over Liechtenstein. Following his appearance against Luxembourg, the 38-year-old earned his 198th cap putting him two ahead of Kuwait's Bader Almotawaa.

To mark the historic moment, Al Nassr's captain scored a brace against both European minnows as Portugal surged to the top of Group J with a 100 per cent record after two qualifying matches. Taking to Instagram after the game, Ronaldo avoided lingering on his own accomplishments and instead focused on the team.

He posted: "Two matches, two wins. Goal accomplished. Happy to have contributed to this very positive start for our national team. Let's go."

Post-match, Portugal's new head coach Roberto Martinez took the opportunity to praise Ronaldo and the impact he has on the squad. He told the media: "Cristiano is a unique player in the world, with the highest number of international caps.

"The experience he has for the dressing room is very important. All players have an important role. The younger ones due to their willingness to play and players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Rui Patricio and Bernardo Silva bring experience. It's important to have a complete dressing room."

Ronaldo has just over a week to recover now before he returns to action for Al Nassr in the Saudi Pro League clash away at Al Adalah on Tuesday, April 4.
