Melbourne Victory have lured fringe Matilda Beattie Goad as part of an impressive signing spree ahead of their A-League Women championship defence.

Goad, 25, returns to the ALW after stints at Spain's UDG Tenerife and Germany's SV Meppen, while she played college football at Stanford.

She started her career at Victory as a 16-year-old, winning the club's inaugural championship in 2013-14 before crossing to rivals Melbourne City for their first season, completing the double in 2015-16.

Goad made her senior Matildas debut against Germany last year and has three caps.

"She's proven herself in some of the top leagues in Europe and we believe she will be an important part of our forward third, whether that be in midfield or in the forward line," coach Jeff Hopkins said in a statement.

"Her life experience at 25 has her primed for an exciting season in the A-League Women's and we can't wait to see what she has to offer."

Goad follows fellow capped Matildas Jessika Nash and Gema Simon, plus ALW stalwart Natalie Tathem and young goalkeeper Miranda Templeman, in joining Victory.

Victory are attempting to become the second team after City to win three consecutive championships.

Star goalkeeper Casey Dumont, New Zealand international Claudia Bunge and attackers Catherine Zimmerman and Lia Privitelli are among the key re-signings while skipper Kayla Morrison will return from her ACL tear.

Victory headed into the off-season needing to replace midfielder Alex Chidiac (Racing Louisville), full-back Polly Doran (Crystal Palace) and young guns Kyra Cooney-Cross and Courtney Nevin (Hammarby).
