Danny Murphy has encouraged his former club Liverpool to make a move for Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips this summer. Phillips’ future remains up in the air at Elland Road as he is yet to agree a new deal, while speculation continues to mount.
The 26-year-old has two years left on his deal at Leeds and has previously stated that he would like to stay at least another year. However, Premier League champions Manchester City are reportedly keen on him, while West Ham United and Aston Villa have also been linked with a summer move.
Liverpool could be in the market for a new midfielder this summer with AS Monaco’s Aurelien Tchouameni said to be a target, who plays in a similar position to Phillips. However, Real Madrid – who beat them in the Champions League final on Saturday – appear to be the favourites for his signature with a €80 million price tag reported.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain looks likely to leave Anfield this summer, while Jordan Henderson and Thiago Alcantara are now both in their 30s. Phillips would not only provide a younger option, but also someone with two years of Premier League and international experience behind him.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Murphy claimed that Phillips is someone who would be able to make an instant impact at Liverpool and believes he is someone they should certainly be looking at this summer.
He said: “I think I would go all in for Rice or Phillips. English, hungry, someone you know is going to be around for a long time, gets in, can come in, hits the ground running.”
