GMB viewers slam Susanna and Ben for 'extensive' Meghan and Harry coverage as new Netflix series drops

Good Morning Britain hosts landed themselves in hot water with viewers due to their 'extensive coverage' of Prince Harry and Meghan's new Netflix series, which came out today (Dec 8). During the show, people watching from home took to social media to complain at 'how much' hosts Susanna Reid and Ben Shephard were 'going on about it'.

Although the highly-anticipated docuseries did not go live on Netflix until 8am this morning, it was mentioned on the ITV breakfast programme throughout - including before and after the episodes launched. Susanna and Ben regularly checked in with their correspondent Noel Phillips in the US bout the six-part series, while ITV's royal editor Chris Ship was among those with them in the studio.

When the documentary finally aired on the popular streaming platform, Susanna and Ben were quick to give viewers a look at the opening episode. Highlighting a statement given at the very start of the first instalment, Susanna read out: "The opening frames of the Harry and Meghan documentary are some quotes and information saying it is a first hand account, including never before seen personal archives and all interviews were completed by August 2022."

The presenter went on to claim the statement was very "significant" given the date of the documentary's release. She said: "Today marks three months since the Queen died. The Queen died on September 8 so it feels like the couple have made clear that all the interviews they did for the documentary series were finished before the death of the Queen."

Slightly later on, there was a temporary break in the Harry and Meghan coverage as Susanna and Ben welcomed boxing champ Tyson Fury to the show for a chat. By the end of the programme, the presenters and their panel of guests discussed what they knew so far from the Harry and Meghan documentary.

However, many viewers were left less than impressed, with one admitting to 'turning over'. @Davefowles68 tweeted: "Sorry @GMB as soon as you start going on about Harry & Meghan I have to turn over! Not interested one bit! #gmb." @Christopher_T42 added: "If we wanted to know what was being said on the Harry and Meghan Netflix thing, we'd be watching it and not you @GMB #gmb."

@FlopsyPickle fumed: "Oh my god just shut the f*** up! I’m sick of hearing about Meghan and Harry when we have far more important things to be talking about!" @Lotslottie16 shared: "I’m so over Harry and Meghan. There are bigger issues in the world than these two right now. #gmb."

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex's Netflix Documentary, titled 'Harry & Meghan', showcases two years worth of filming of the couple's lives since they stepped down as senior royals. The first three episode of the series were released today, with the rest to be aired next Thursday.

In the description for the series, Netflix writes: "From rifts to racism, leaked stories to lawsuits, Harry and Meghan describe their challenges and what led to their exit from the Royal Family."

Episode one's bio states: "As Harry shares the impact of childhood in the public eye, he and Meghan reflect on the secret, early days of their unexpected romance." The first episode also opens with: "This is a first-hand account of Harry & Meghan's story, told with never before seen personal archive. All interviews were completed by August 2022. Members of the royal family declined to comment on the content within this series."

It then follows with Harry saying: “So like duty and service and I feel as though being part of this family it is my duty to uncover this exploitation and bribery that happens within our media.” Meghan adds: “Unfortunately, in us standing for something, they are destroying us.”

Meghan's mum Doria Ragland is also seen speaking for the first time, discussing the moment Meghan told her about Prince Harry and spoke about the press coverage of Meghan’s background in which she said paparazzi would take pictures of deprived neighbourhoods in Los Angeles.

Bio for the second episode reads: "In 2016, the relationship becomes public - and public scrutiny begins. Meghan remembers school, family life, acting and activism before Harry." While the third adds: "The couple's 2017 engagement sparks both cynicism and hope. As Meghan grapples with royal protocols, tabloid headlines begin to involve her family."
