Good Morning Britain viewers were asking "what was wrong with" Richard Madeley on the ITV show on Wednesday, as the host let rip at a show guest.
Richard and co-presenter Charlotte Hawkins were interviewing MP Ian Murray, Shadow Secretary of State for Scotland, and asked him about the latest news surrounding Sir Keir Starmer.
The Labour Party leader and his deputy Angela Rayner have both received questionnaires by Durham Constabulary as part of an inquiry into alleged Covid rule-breaking.
Richard was quick to ask the MP about this, and who he thought might replace Starmer if he was fined - following the leader's pledge to resign if he is fined for breaching the rules.
But things soon got heated as Richard accused the show guest of being "rude" and not answering his question.
As things escalated, viewers claimed the host was having a "meltdown" and questioned his "over the top" reaction, as well as him demanding answers, but interrupting before the answers came.
After asking who would replace Starmer, Richard wasn't happy with the response and barked back: "Sorry you're just, sorry... you're telling us what we know.
"The question is who would take over if Sir Keir were to be fined and was to stick to his promise and step down, who would be the next leader of the L abour Party?"
After trying to speak, Ian Murray said: "Well I think it's quite clear what B oris Johnson wants to do because his only defence is..."
But Richard then shouted over him, saying: "Who will be the leader of the Labour Party? No I'm not, come on... if you don't want to answer it that's fine, just say 'don't ask me that question Richard cos I'm not gonna answer it'.
"But the viewers at home can hear me ask a question and they can hear you give an answer to a question I haven't asked.
"So it's just politeness, I'll ask you politely one more time. If Sir Keir Starmer does step down and it's a possibility, this isn't in the realms of utter fantasy.
"If he does step down cos he gets a fine, who do you think might take over... if you don't want to answer it, say you don't want to answer it, but don't give me an answer to a question I haven't asked, cos it's just rude."
The MP replied: "Well I think it's also rude to interrupt when I'm trying to answer the question."
Richard fired back: "So answer the question, thats why I'm interrupting... no excuse me, I'm interrupting you sir because you're not answering the question, and I will interrupt anyone of any party who doesn't answer the question, because that's my job."
He then asked if MPs had "special training" on how to avoid answering questions, and as the guest claimed he was being interrupted Richard replied: "No you weren't."
While a few viewers backed Richard and said they felt his frustration, many others called out his interview technique and praised the MP for how he handled the chat.
"Please get rid of Richard Madeley. Such a rude man and ruins #gmb. That Mp couldn’t answer. Wasn’t given a chance," commented one viewer.
Another said: "I think the MP held his own though and made Madeley look pathetic and rude."
A third tweeted: "Are you going to apologise for your over the top meltdown Richard Madeley?" as a fourth asked: "Is Madeley having a meltdown?"
The comments kept coming too, with one reading: "Richard needs to stop being so rude," and another saying: "WTF is wrong with Richard Madeley? He's just lambasted a Labour MP claiming he wasn't answering the question. He wouldn't let him answer the f***ing question!"
Some did support the host though, with a tweet reading: "Richard Madeley getting as frustrated as the rest of us this morning - trying to get a straight answer is nigh on impossible with these MPs."
Another said: "Go for it Richard, they avoid all the questions."
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV and ITV Hub.
